About Kashatagh (Lachin)
Kashatagh (Lachin) is a town and region in Artsakh,
southwest from Shushi. In 1926, it was torn away from Armenia on the pretext
of founding a "Kurdish autonomy"; after the silent liquidation of the
latter in 1930 was attached to the Soviet Azerbaijan.
Kashatagh obviously split to two minor parts named
after the fortresses of Kashatagh and Khozhoraberd, situated in the former
Aghahej.
Unlike Khozhoraberd, the district of Kashatagh, including the southern
and southeastern parts of the former Aghahej, had been playing some role
during the next centuries and was mentioned for a number of times. It
is recorded alongside with village Khoznavar in the colophon of the manuscript
Gospel of 1488: "written in the district of Kashatagh, in the village
called Khozanavar, under the auspices of St. Stephanos, the Martyr...".
The vast majority of visitors arrive in Karabakh through the Lachin Corridor(the
smooth new highway, from Goris to Stepanakert passes through the Lachin
corridor).
Several schools are reconstructed in Kashatagh by the Armenian Educational Foundation.
